Sluggish Shrug Progress February 28, 2008

Filed under: Two Toned Shrugs — mickeyness @ 7:06 pm

So I’ve been working on re-knitting the bubblegum shrug since the last one was WAY too tiny. But, admittedly, I’ve been knitting far less enthusiastically this time because my nightmare is that I’ll finish it the 2nd time and then find out it’s too big for her. That would be awful.

But anyway, there’s hope. I just finished up to the sleeves and seamed them up. This time it looks like it should work. It fits me a bit tight (which means it will fit her a bit loose) but I was so glad that I could even try it on this time around.

So, without further ado, here is the bit of progress that I have made:

So next step is to meet up with Chanel and have her see if it’ll fit her or not. The only problem with that is that she just got the chicken pocks a few days ago :( so it’ll be awhile before she’ll feeling up to company I’m sure.

Until then, I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Ugh! February 20, 2008

So I know yesterday I posted pictures of the shrug and I was pretty hopeful/confident that Chanel was so tiny that the tiny shrug would still fit her. Turns out I was delusional. So this is what the shrug looks like today:

Blasted thing was at least 1 size (maybe 2) too small for her. Grr. So I’ve ripped it apart and will start it over in a few days (when I’ve calmed down) and this time cast on for the 15″ pattern. She wears a lot of her clothes baggy, anyway, so I figure even though it’s closer to my size it’ll work for her. What a nightmare. If I make it again and it’s either freakishly tiny/freakishly baggy for her, I think I’m gonna flip out!!!

So that makes this the 4th frogging of this shrug thus far. This 4th and *hopefully* final frogging was the most crushing, as the shrug was ENTIRELY completed!!

GRR!

Bubblegum shrug: How I hate you. February 18, 2008

Well, I finally finished the bubblegum shrug for Chanel. I had to frog it twice because I had made mistakes with the first 34 rows of increases. But then I realized the pattern was also wrong and I was supposed to do 36 rows to increase to the correct amount of stitches. Lame.

Anyway, it’s super cute:

..But I just hope it will fit. Look how tiny it is compared to the shrug I just knit for myself:

It’s like a little tiny baby, made out of yarn!!

^^ lol, I look like such a dork! ^^

Haha. Yeah. So Chanel’s much tinier than me, so I REALLY hope it will fit her. I’ll just have to make sure I stretch it a bit before I have her try it on, too.

WISH ME LUCK!!! Haha, I’ll definitely post about it later. That’s the bad thing about knitting for other people- you don’t always have them around to try it on throughout the process. Next time I make something for a friend, I think it’ll be a scarf. Or something else that doesn’t really need to be properly sized.

Oops. February 14, 2008

Well, the yarn I ordered for Chanel’s tiny little shrug finally came in the mail. So I was super excited last night when my swatch matched the pattern for the Two Tone Shrug and I was able to cast on.

So it was LATE last night/this morning. Around 1 am. And I spent the whole time I was knitting watching videos on Youtube. I had only glanced at the directions for the pattern’s increases and started. Part of me thought I remembered what to do since I already made a shrug just like this.

After not paying much attention and 36 rows later, I realized that I was only making an increase before the markers, but not after them. So there were 42 stiches for one sleeve and 26 for the other. Ridiculous.

So after several minutes of frogging I am left with half a skein of curly pink yarn, naked needles, and *broken dreams.* Lol, so I’ll have to wait until later tonight when I have time to cast on again and do the increases the right way.

Scrunchable Scarf Finished February 11, 2008

Filed under: Finished Objects, Scarves — mickeyness @ 3:12 am

Well, I finished my scarf a few days ago and love how it turned out. It knit up REALLY fast, too. And in even better news, I’ve finally used up all of the green yarn I bought on sale, yay!

I know I’m not as cute as Benny, but I thought I’d post a picture anyway.

So now I’ve come to a decision-making point. Here’s the situation:

I bought blue and red sport weight yarn for a project for my Dad. He just bought a motor scooter and bought a helmet to use that was blue with a red dragon. So as soon as he ordered that on Ebay, I ordered the yarn and decided I would make him a fingerless pair of gloves that he could use while he’s driving. I wanted to stitch “Yo ho Yo ho A biker’s life for me” on them (just as a joke since we’ve been telling him how hard-core he is on his 50cc moped). But anyway, he’s gonna end up selling the helmet already. I’ve already opened the yarn to knit a swatch.

So now I have to decide if I want to put the time and effort into knitting a pair of gloves that my Dad probably won’t wear that match a helmet that he’s selling. Hmm.. He’s always complaining that I don’t make him anything, but he’s so picky that he’ll never wear the stuff I want to knit, anyway. So yeah, now I’ve got a bunch of extra yarn that I don’ think I’ll end up using : ( Lame. After I just spent $15 on yarn he goes and sells the dumb helmet. *men!*

Scrunchable Scarf February 7, 2008

Filed under: Kitty Cats, Scarves — mickeyness @ 3:00 am

So I know I kind of swore off scarves last month, since those tend to be the only thing that I knit. But after the shrug was finished, I still had 3 unopened balls of green yarn! lol, I was thinking about making a shrug for my tiny friend Chanel, but then I found out it would probably take 4 balls of yarn. And then I also found out that she hates bright green. So, yeah, that idea was out of the window.

Anyway, I ran across the pattern for the scrunchable scarf and I really love it. It has knit up SO fast. Plus I like that it gives your basic ribbing a more sophisticated look. Plus, it’s such an easy project to work on that I’ve been doing it almost constantly because I can do it while I watch TV or surf YouTube : )

So I had left the scarf on my couch while I was gone, and apparently my cat Benny had decided to attack it. But apparently it was such a “scrunchable” cushy scarf that he ended up taking a nap with it.

How cute!!! Haha, I took about 35 pictures of him. But I didn’t think I should force you to look at all of them. Only the cutest!

The shrug has been started!…AND finished!!! February 4, 2008

Filed under: Finished Objects, Two Toned Shrugs — mickeyness @ 1:33 am

WOW I am amazed at how fast this shrug knit up! I started it on 1/26 and finished it on 1/31!! It was such an easy pattern to follow! I love it! I had planned on posting a few entries about it as I was going, but at the rate I was knitting it, I figured I’d be done fast enough that I could squeeze the whole project into a single post. *I’m so lazy!*

So, without further ado, I give you:

Yeah, so I love how it looks overall. I just wish it would come together more at the front. I kind of feel like it looks like I stole it from a little kid, since it doesn’t fit over the *girls* haha. I think this pattern is cuter on girls who aren’t curvy. But yeah, since I put the time into it, I’m not about to frog it, even if I do feel a little ridiculous in it, lol.

But yeah, I’m gonna make a few of these shrugs for my friends since they’re so easy. And the best part about it is that my friends are non-knitters, so they’re gonna be way impressed! Haha! Plus, it’s gonna be even easier than mine was to knit, since my one friend Chanel is SUPER tiny and I only have to make the smallest size for her! Yay!

Oh, and P.S., I noticed a total STRANGE coincidence about my knitting and my pajamas and this totally wasn’t planned:

Apparently I like the way bright green looks with blue. It was a little scary when I noticed I was knitting something in the same colors I was wearing, lol.

Yeah, so I’ve ordered some yarn from Knit Picks and will blog about that when it gets here and I start my next project. I’m guessing the next one will take much longer than a week to complete, it’s a pair of gloves! Stay tuned…!
